Let’s start making sense of OHS: Safety – Not child’s play

Did you know that “how to lift” training does not reduce risk?

It takes more than an ‘how to lift’ training session, or poster to make sure your team is safe from the biggest cause of injury in Victorian workplaces, hazardous manual handling.

Simply teaching employees to bend their knees and keep their backs straight when lifting is not enough to reduce injury risks. This approach fails to address the root cause of hazards. Employers must implement more effective risk control measures to comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (OHS Act).

Occupational health and safety (OHS) is essential to creating a safe and thriving environment for educators and children alike. But for many professionals in the Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) sector, OHS can feel overwhelming. That’s why ELAA and Recovre are bringing you an exclusive, interactive one-day seminar designed to make safety simple, practical, and highly relevant to your everyday work.

Meet the Experts:

  • Zora Marko, Road Safety Education Project Manager & OHS Coordinator at ELAA. With a deep commitment to child safety, Zora brings a wealth of knowledge from her work on the Early Childhood OHS Champions project, funded by WorkSafe.
  • Emma Morgan, Occupational Therapist at Recovre. Emma heads a national OHS training and consulting team, specialising in ergonomics, manual handling, and psychological wellbeing in the workplace.
