Since we began negotiations in June this year, we have represented our VECTEA 2024 members through 11 bargaining meetings with the Australian Education Union (AEU) and our negotiating partners, the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV), which represents Local Government. The Department of Education (Victoria) has also been attending these discussions.
We started with over one hundred claims from both employer organisations and the sector union, and we are making steady progress in representing our members' bargaining interests.
Some items that have been under discussion at the bargaining table include, but are not limited to:
- Recognising the importance of teacher leadership in services, including allowances and non-contact time for Directors/Team Leaders appointed by their employers in kindergarten settings.
- Acknowledging the need for additional non-contact time and an allowance for Educational Leaders.
- Introducing paid 10-minute rest break periods – which can be taken with the unpaid meal break.
